How to Repair an Electrical Shock

What Is an Electrical Shock?

An electrical shock occurs when you come into contact with an electrical current. This can happen if you touch a live wire or if you are using electrical equipment that is not properly grounded. Electric shock can cause burns, muscle spasms, and even heart failure. In severe cases, it can be fatal. 

How to Repair an Electrical Shock 

If you have suffered an electrical shock, the first thing you should do is call 877-209-4139. Then, follow these steps: 

  1. Disconnect the power source. If you can safely reach the power source, turn it off or disconnect it from the power source. If you cannot reach the power source, do not try to move the person who has been shocked. 
  2. Check for burns. Look for burns on the skin and clothing. Remove any clothing that has been burned. If the clothes are stuck to the skin, do not try to remove them. 
  3. Check for breathing and pulse. If the person is not breathing, start CPR right away. If the person has a pulse but is not breathing, give rescue breaths. 
  4. Apply first aid as needed for burns or other injuries.
